1. Pitso Mosimane to leave Sundowns?
Pitso Mosimane’s contract expires at the end of the season. The 55 year old has raised the profile of Sundowns. He has won 4 league titles and 1 CAFCL title. He is also our favorite African coach.
Is he leaving? He said, “I want to stay. My heart and spirit is here.” But this is on condition of successful negotiations. He sees it as his last big contract before retirement. Yes, he wants to retire soon.
2. Arab Club Champions Cup
They are calling it the Mohamed VI Champions Cup this season, by the way.
What does this tournament have to do with the CAF Champions League? One of the 8 teams still in contention for that title is also in the CAFCL. This club is Raja Casablanca. They knocked out Wydad in the round of 16. Next up, they will face the winner between MC Alger (Algeria) and Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya (Iraq).
Other quarterfinal fixtures are:
Al Shabab (Saudi Arabia) v Al Shorta (Iraq)
Ittihad Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) v Olympic Safi (Morocco)
Ittihad Alexandria (Egypt) v Ismaily (Egypt)
3. Al Ahly’s new Stadium
Al Ahly announced that the club will be making a 25-year switch to Al Salam Stadium. The stadium was opened in 2009 and has a capacity of 30,000. This will serve them until completion of their own 60,000-seater stadium.
The club preferred Al Salam over, the much larger, Cairo International stadium to save on expenses.

4. Ben Malango misses CAFCL Match
Former TP Mazembe man, Ben Malango could not be counted upon in Raja Casablanca’s match away to Vita Club. The club decided it was in everyone’s best interest to leave him out.
Why? Malango’s move to Casablanca was contested by TP Mazembe. His entourage holds that Ben was a free agent when he signed with Raja.
5. Oh Zamalek!
It is always eventful at Zamalek SC. You would think the heavy defeat to TP Mazembe would be the end of it. You think wrong. The result was followed by the sacking of coach Micho.
Patrice Carteron was hurriedly announced as his successor. Then, one of the club’s marquee players, right back, Hamdi Nagguez announced termination of his contract over unpaid dues. He is already flirting with Ahli Jeddah (Saudi Arabia). We can’t wait to see what is stirring at Zamalek in a week’s time.
