TP Mazembe ended a lengthy wait for an away win in the CAF Champions League. Elsewhere, Zamalek got their campaign back on track against Primeiro Agosto.
ZESCO Utd 1-2 TP Mazembe
The last time Mazembe had won away from home was in the 2018 group stage against Difaa El Jadida (Morocco). Mihayo’s men assured themselves one this time by racing to a 2-goal lead. Both goals were spectacularly scored by Jackson Muleka, in the 10th and 63rd minutes, to complete a second brace in as many matches.
The striker had to go off late on with an injury. Before that, Kalengo had pulled a cheeky goal back for ZESCO Utd but it was never going to happen for them.
Zamalek 2-0 Primeiro Agosto
Yes, that is the impressive 68th minute volley from Bencharki that sealed the win for Zamalek. In the 16th minute, the same player had been on the end of a chipped ball by Youssef Obama. This was Achraf Bencharki’s second brace in less than a week’s time. He also scored on Carteron’s debut in the Egypt Cup.
Primeiro suffered the indignity of finishing with 10-men after being bested throughout the match. Akifenwa Ibutu was the man that was sent off.
