There were no winners on this round in Group C. Sundowns held their own in Casablanca while Petro Luanda had to claw their way back to a draw against USM Alger.
Petro Luanda 1-1 USM Alger
USM Alger had a successive group match end 1-1. This leaves them in a precarious position ahead of two matches against Mamelodi Sundowns. The side missed a few chances before Benchaa scored the opener in the 54th minute. The hosts allowed them in the lead for only 10 minutes. Petro Luanda was able to draw level but unable to find the winner despite pushing so strongly towards the end of the match.
Wydad Casablanca 0-0 Mamelodi Sundowns
The tie of the round ultimately failed to deliver. This was also the first goalless match between these two teams. Sundowns thought they had scored a freak early goal but the linesman somehow called offside.
What do you think of it?
The match went on – thankfully – but half chances were the best on offer. There was one instance right before halftime when Morena got a one-on-one but Tagnaouti was positioned well enough to save it.
