1. Esperance at the Club World Cup

Esperance are set to make a third appearance at the FIFA Club World Cup. And they will be hoping this time is the charm.

Their previous 2 attempts at the World Champions badge saw them eliminated early by clubs from the gulf. Al Sadd (Qatar) did it in 2011 and Al Ain (UAE) followed up in 2018. This year Esperance will looking to make amends against Al Hilal of Saudi Arabia. The match is on 14th December (Saturday), from 4pm CAT.

2. Kahraba joins Al Ahly

Kahraba Al Ahly
“back home”

Al Ahly has managed to convince yet another top player to join their ranks. The footballer signed this time is Mahmoud Kahraba. Get this, he used to be a crowd favourite at Zamalek! But the other 25-year old described signing a four-and-a-half year deal with Ahly as “returning home.”

I would say I can’t wait for the next Cairo Derby if, for once, Zamalek could compete.

Wydad crybabies, right? Walid El Karti came out making comments about how his team was a “victim” in the CAFCL final against Esperance. He scored what he thought to be an equalizing goal only to see it ruled offside.

To his credit, El Karti added did add good words. He said, “The injustice we have suffered will push to focus more to win the 2020 edition of the Champions League.”

4. July 5 Stadium Renovation

Stade 5 Juillet

Algeria’s main stadium remains closed for renovations. But some good progress is being made to have it ready by March 2020 for clubs like USM Alger. Hopefully. It is well known that Algeria is really slow when it comes to completing stadiums. The works being undertaken include laying a new pitch and installing electronic gates.

5. USM Alger falling apart?

The Algiers team has been unable to pay player salaries after its bank accounts were frozen by the Government. Okay, the accounts of the club owner were frozen. Don’t ask me why that affected the club so badly (something, something transparency).

This has resulted in the likes of CR Belouizdad preparing winter raids for USMA players. Muaid Ellafi, who boycotted trainings, is one on their radar. Another player mentioned is Abdelrim Zouari – he scored against Wydad Casablanca.
