Angola has closed its border with South Africa due to a new strain of Covid-19 in Mzansi but that will not stop the CAF Champions League First Round second leg match between Primeiro Agosto and Kaizer Chiefs from going ahead. We are grateful.

Primeiro Agosto Probable XI: Neblu – Isaac, Ungenda, Boni, Natael – Herenilson, Mario, Moya – Atouba, Zini, Mabululu (4-3-3).

Kaizer Chiefs Probable XI: Akpeyi – Mphahlele, Cardoso, Mathotho, Zulu – Blom, Ngcobo, Zuma, Billiat – Castro, Nurkovic (4-4-2).

The match will be played at the 11th November stadium on 5th January 2021. Kickoff time is 5pm CAT.

What is at Stake?

Billiat Kaizer Chiefs
Will we see 2016 Billiat in CAFCL?

Kaizer Chiefs are looking to make history by reaching the CAFCL Group Stage for the first time ever. Are you surprised? They have not had the best relations with CAF over the years as detailed in this article. Amakhosi also have a chance to reboot their season with a big accomplishment.

Primeiro Agosto are desperate to front themselves as the third force in Sub-Saharan Africa, after Sundowns and TP Mazembe, and you need consistent group stage appearences for us to notice you.

Neither of the teams will be pleased with the consolation prize of dropping to the CAF Confederation Cup (eww!).

What will the Match be Like?

Primeiro Agosto players

Primeiro Agosto have only played two matches under, new coach, Paulo Duarte. They held Chiefs to a draw at Soccer City and then beat Interclube in the Girabola. Not bad. But the club is only finding its identity and the team may get confused as to approach if things get tense in Luanda.

We anticipate that Duarte will maintain the team that got the result in South Africa with one or two changes for “better” personnel rather than major tactical changes. The best tactical change you will get is Primeiro Agosto trading a center back for an extra body in midfield. Otherwise, we wait to see if the likes of Ipamy, Moya and Manico will start.

Khune overweight
Wow. Khune overweight here

Gavin Hunt, on the other hand, will make at least four changes. Two of these changes are forced as Katsande and Manyama did not travel with the team to Angola for unknown reasons. Goalkeeper, Khune was also dropped but he did not start in the first leg match.

The best news for Chiefs is that Samir Nurkovic is back. The Serbian striker has been out all season and will be rushed to start in this high stakes match. This means that we will see Billiat feature on the wings as Castro partners Nurkovic. Hunt will not change his team’s approach of dominating the game in an encounter where they will enjoy counter-attacking opportunities.

Primeiro Agosto 1-1 Kaizer Chiefs

Primeiro Agosto will be challenged to open up and control the game at home. They will be desperate to score first in order to revert to counter-attacking. Kaizer Chiefs have been okayish with the ball all season but have lacked a goal scorer. It remains to be seen if Nurkovic is sharp enough for the task.
