The 2020/2021 CAF Champions League Group Stage draw turned out to be the best one yet. The fact that 10 of the clubs are from just five countries did not ruin the fun.Β  We will be enjoying “new” CAFCL clashes when the contest to reach the quarterfinals kicks off on 12th February 2021.

Last season, Sundowns, TP Mazembe and Esperance Tunis all wrapped up their CAFCL group campaigns with a match to spare. Oh! How they will be begging for that this season. This time we predict that the competition for last eight places will last until the final day. And we our predictions are pretty good. Continue reading below for the rest of our early CAF Champions League predictions:

GROUP A

Al Ahly are favourites and face tricky opponents that will save them from complaceny. Second place is open. Simba SC and Vita Club got the favourable draw they need to advance to the quarters. Al Merrikh would be co-favourites, with Ahly, in other years but this season they must earn that respect back.

Early Prediction:Β Al Ahly, Al Merrikh, Simba, Vita Club

Player to Watch: Luis Miquissone (he will be playing in Botola next season, isn’t he?)Β

GROUP B

Does it get better than this? TP Mazembe and Sundowns are the top dogs of Sub-Saharan Africa. Al Hilal is THE dark horse of the CAF Champions League (seriously, when will they win it?). CR Belouizdad look like a strong Algerian side and that usually means quarterfinals. Home form will be key in Group B.

Early Prediction:Β Sundowns, TP Mazembe, CR Belouizdad, Al Hilal

Player to Watch: Peter Shalulile

GROUP C

Amakhosi have been given a soft landing into the CAFCL Group Stage. We know that they will not be complaining too much about “playing in Africa.” Horoya and Petro Luanda can reach the quartefinal if they do not get too fazed by the big name of Kaizer Chiefs. Wydad fans are smiling, of course.

Early Prediction:Β Wydad Casablanca, Kaizer Chiefs, Horoya, Petro Luanda

Player to Watch: Muaid Ellafi (didn’t do it with USM Alger)Β

GROUP D

Zamalek always seem to have the upper hand against Esperance Tunis since losing that CAFCL Final in 1999. But the White Knights are struggling to keep some of their key players. This gives MC Alger room to cause an upset. Any team that drops points against Teungueth FC will be in big trouble (no disrespect, we love Senegal).

Did I mention that Esperance Tunis always finishes top of the group?

Early Prediction:Β Esperance Tunis, Zamalek, MC Alger, Teungueth FC

Player to Watch: Whoever will play striker for Esperance πŸ˜‚
