Phew, the Matchday came and went as expected.

Here are my matchday thoughts.

1. Good response Al Ahly

Their response after their past two games was impressive, picking up 3 points and 3 goals in Kinshasa. Given the hot and cold CAFCL season it had been till this point for them, they did well.

2. We need to talk about AS Vita

Their inconsistency is second to none. After the home loss against Simba, they seemed to be back in the picture after a win in Omdurman against Almerreikh(a totally disappointing side this season) and a precious draw against Al Ahly but they decided to be AS Vita again. Well, at least there are two games remaining

3. Welcome Back, Patrice Carteron

And what a way to welcome him back, Zamalek. A disappointing performance against Esperance in Cairo definitely wasn’t one he was looking for and as a result, they might be out of the Champions league barring a miracle in their last two games. Well, not the stuff expected of contenders.

4. Put some respect on Moine Chabaani and Didier Gomes Da Rosa’s names

Moine Chaabani
Didier Gomes Da Rosa

Most of the talk has been about the Sundowns duo so far, but the Esperance and Simba gaffers (Chabaani especially) also deserve lots of praise. Their teams are undefeated so far, with the Tunisian side already booking their quarter final place and Simba, barring any surprises should also be in the knockout stage.

Bonus point: MC Alger and Faouzi Benzarti, you’re doing well.

Well, the Algerian side are a point away from qualifying at the expense of tournament favourites Zamalek, and the old Tunisian is still showing he has one or two more tricks left in his bag as he has successfully steered Wydad Casablanca to the quarter finals.
