Matchday 5, lots of twists, turns and intrigue. Let’s get to the main pointshttps://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js
1. Zamalek, can you do it?
Can they qualify? Maybe not, but the crucial away win at Algiers is a huge step towards that, now they just need to win Teungueth and hope results go their way in the other game
2. So long, TP Mazembe and AS Vita
AS Vita Club 🇨🇩 coach Florent Ibenge says DR Congo clubs are suffering because they don’t have money.— N U H U ®️ (@NuhuAdams_) April 5, 2021
“You see now that football goes with money,” he said
“At the moment Tanzanian clubs have more money than the Congolese teams. They can afford to have better players than us.” pic.twitter.com/70NEeVjaGb
This campaign has been nothing short of shambolic by the Congolese teams, although AS Vita are perennial underachievers. And with the current policy shift by Moise Katumbi towards favouring academy players, it’s going to be a while before TP Mazembe gets back to being a threat in the competition. As for AS Vita, well Ibenge cried out that they do not have money so: don’t get your hopes up.
3. Shame, Almerreikh
No wins at all, an embarrassing home loss to AS Vita Club although it’s somewhat harsh given their Covid plight, but it has been a nightmare return for the Sudanese side to the competition. And to cap it all, they threw away a two goal lead to draw against Al Ahly.
4. Petro de Luanda, shame also
Two home losses and a single point to show, even debutants Teungueth did better. For a club that isn’t making it’s first ever appearance, it’s really disappointing.
Can Kaizer Chiefs qualify?
The battle for who will join Wydad in the quarter final from Group C will be decided on matchday 6.— Kofi Asiedu (@KofiAsiedu_) April 3, 2021
Horoya vs Kaizer Chiefs (Both with 8 points.@KaizerChiefs need a win or a scoring draw in that game to qualify. Its possible#TotalCAFCL #CAFCL pic.twitter.com/6qpGjkIC6f
Well all they have to do is beat Horoya in Conakry, something top clubs have not done in recent years. Best of luck, you’ll need all of it against them.
